How Home Loan EMI Works
A home loan EMI is the regular payment made by a borrower towards a housing loan. Each EMI generally contains two components: a portion that goes towards the outstanding principal and a portion that represents interest on the loan.
The EMI amount is influenced by three primary inputs: the amount borrowed, the applicable interest rate and the repayment tenure. Changing any of these variables can change the monthly repayment and the total amount paid over the loan period.
A longer repayment tenure can reduce the monthly instalment because the repayment is distributed across more months. However, the borrower may pay more total interest over the complete tenure.
This calculator is designed for financial planning and comparison. Actual loan terms can differ based on the lender, borrower profile, interest-rate structure, applicable charges and the final sanctioned loan terms.
EMI Formula
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1)
P = Principal loan amount
r = Monthly interest rate
n = Total number of monthly instalments
